Thirteen films have been short-listed for the Muhr Arab documentary Awards, all portraying tales of life in the Arab world, with filmmakers from as far afield as Denmark and France exploring themes of relevance to the region.
Fourteen films made by UAE nationals will compete in the Dubai International Film Festival’s first Muhr Emirati competition next month, giving the region and the world its first look at the new wave of national talent. The films – including 12 world premieres - will screen to the UAE public and regional and international guests from December 12 to 19, prior to the awards ceremony on December 19.
Celebrating the union of cinema and music, the Rhythm & Reels segment of the Dubai International Film Festival this year showcases a spectacular line-up of bio-pics and musicals, complemented by live performances by popular Arab and international acts from Rima Khcheich, Massar Egbari and Y-Crew to a mariachi ensemble specially flown in from Mexico.
Fifteen short films from the Arab world on subjects ranging from rebellion to abortion have been shortlisted for the Muhr Arab Shorts competition at the Dubai International Film Festival 2010. The in-competition selection, which includes seven world premieres, three Middle East premieres and four Gulf premieres, will screen to the public from December 12 to 19 prior to the Muhr Awards ceremony on December 20, 2010.
